What are the flexi-job conditions in 2025?

Written by the Experza editorial team | last updated on September 3, 2025

On January 31, 2025, a new federal government took office, giving a boost to the flexi-job system. It was decided to increase the income ceiling for non-retired flexi-jobbers to €18,000 and to allow flexi-jobs in all sectors that wish to implement them. But does the government agreement also introduce new conditions for flexi-jobs? Most rules remain unchanged, although there are a few exceptions. In this blog, you will find an overview of the conditions for a flexi-job in 2025.

Table of Contents

1. When are you eligible for a flexi-job?

With the flexi-status, you can earn extra income advantageously alongside your main profession or pension. Are you permanently employed elsewhere and wish to earn extra? Then you may perform a flexi-job if you have worked at least 4/5th for another employer for 3 quarters prior to your additional earnings. For example: if you wish to perform a flexi-job in January, February, and March 2025, you must have worked at least 4/5th in April, June, and July of 2024.

Please note: you may not perform a flexi-job for a company belonging to the same corporate group as the company for which you are permanently employed, unless through temporary agency work. Another exception to this rule is made for those who start a flexi-job at the beginning of a quarter and subsequently receive a permanent contract with the same employer.

An additional condition applies to individuals who switch from full-time to 4/5th employment and combine it with a flexi-job. Those who make this choice must take into account a waiting period of 2 quarters. This waiting period starts in the third quarter after the transition. Suppose you start working 4/5th from January 1, 2025, then you ARE allowed to do a flexi-job in the period from January 2025 up to and including September 2025, but NOT in the period from October 2025 up to and including March 2026. After that, you may resume flexi-jobbing!

You may also work as a flexi-jobber during your retirement. Those who have reached the statutory retirement age may start immediately. The same applies to pensioners who are younger and have worked at least 4/5th before their retirement. If you worked less than 4/5th before your retirement, you must be registered as a pensioner for at least 2 quarters before you may start your flexi-job.

Do you want to check, for certainty, whether you still meet the flexi-job conditions? Then take a look at www.mycareer.be, a website of the Belgian government. Log in and immediately see which rules apply to your personal situation.

2. What is the flexi-wage in 2025?

As a flexi-jobber, you are paid according to the statutory minimum wage of the sector in which you perform your flexi-job. This so-called standard wage is determined by your function as a flexi-jobber and must be at least equal to the GGMMI. Only in the hospitality sector has a minimum flexi-wage been determined for several years. In 2025, this wage was increased to €12.53 per hour (=€11.64 per hour + 7.67% holiday pay). Want to know more about the flexi-wage? You can read all about it in this blog.

In addition to a minimum, there is also a maximum flexi-wage. This amounts to 150% of the minimum standard wage (excl. allowances, bonuses, and benefits). For joint committees 100 and 200 (supplementary sectors), the hourly wage is calculated without the 150% rule if the contracts have been created manually.

3. How much can you work as a flexi-jobber?

Non-retired flexi-jobbers must still take into account an income ceiling (this rule therefore does not apply to retired flexi-jobbers). If you earn more than €18,000 net per year with your flexi-job, you will pay taxes on your additional earnings.

No worries: you don’t have to count every flexi-cent yourself. In June 2024, the Belgian government introduced the flexi-counter, which shows you how much you have already earned with your flexi-job in a year. You can consult the counter via www.mycareer.be. Furthermore, from 2025, the flexi-counter will be updated not quarterly, but weekly. This improvement allows you to track your earnings in real-time.

Retired flexi-jobbers do not have to take into account the limit of €18,000 per year, but for some flexi-jobbers who are in early retirement, an additional limit amount will apply from 2025. Those who are in early retirement, have not yet reached the statutory retirement age, AND have worked less than 45 years at the start of their first retirement pension must adhere to a limit amount of €7,876 per year from January 1, 2025.
